It is a full day tour to Ihlara Canyon and environs on the western side of Cappadocia. After picking you up from your hotel, we will drive to Ihlara Canyon which will take 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Ihlara Canyon or “Peristrema” has been formed at the outskirts of volcanic Hasandag and Golludag. The volcanic eruptions of those mountains covered the terrain with layers of tuff and lava. The Melendiz Stream then cut the layers and thus created 100 meters deep and 14 kilometers long canyon. It was where the earliest Christians were settled and one of the important community centers during the Byzantine period as well. It has been honey combed with many rock-cut dwellings and churches.

We will walk down the valley near Ihlara Village and walk through the Canyon 3,5 kms by the Melendiz Stream. The harmony of the water sound of the stream in the valley together with the magical natural formations around will make you feel like you are somewhere at heaven. We will also see few rock-cut churches on route.

We did not forget to take you for lunch where you will enjoy the local food. After arriving Belisirma Village we will enjoy having lunch by the stream.

Next, we will visit Selime Village with cave houses and monastaries. It requires climbing up to the Selime Cathedral from 8th or 11th century in a vast monastic complex. Then, continue to Guzelyurt “Beautiful Country” in Turkish, which used to be a beautiful old Greek town Called Karballa. Walking down in the Monastry Valley, this is where we will visit the Big Church Mosque “ Büyük Cami Kilise” which was originally an old Byzantine Church used by the old local Greeks here, later converted to a mosque. We will also discover the old cave dwellings around having some free time to feel the atmosphere here, taking some good pictures and relaxing for some good time.

Then we will drive back to your hotel.
