Sanliurfa

Şanlıurfa is a town in the southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey. The city, referred to as the city of prophets, is the seventh-largest city in Turkey. The people of the area often see to the town as Urfa, as the old name of the town is Urfa. After his efforts during the war of independence, the city has given the title of glorious in 1984. The city called the city of prophets is also called the city of Legends.

Sanliurfa and its surroundings are believed to have been inhabited since the polished stone age. It is located at the site of the oldest temple in the world, which used around 11000 BC. Şanlıurfa, which was in the hands of the Ottomans until World War II, was occupied by the British first and then the French in 1919. It was liberated from enemy occupation on 11 April 1920. After the establishment of the Republic, it became a province in 1924.
