Harran

Harran is a district of Sanlıurfa, close to the border with Syria. Harran, one of the most critical and tourist-attracting regions of şanlıurfa, is 44 km away from Sanliurfa. The most crucial feature of Harran is that it is one of the world's first science centers. Besides this, Harran is also the first university in the world. History Of Harran

Harran is one of the oldest settlements in Northern Mesopotamia. Almost all of the people of the district are Turkish citizens of Arab origin. Therefore, Arab culture prevails in the area. The history of the city dates back to 2000s BC. The first finds named Harran are cuneiform tablets dating back to 2250 BC found in Ebla. It is worth noting that the city is called "Ha-ra-an" on these tablets. On the cuneiform tablets belonging to the same period, the name of the town is referred to as "Har-ra-na" - "Ha-ra-na." These names come from "Haran-u," which means "travel" or "caravan" in Sumerian and Akat language. In some other sources, it is stated that this word means "intersecting roads" or "severe heat."
