Side

The Side is a resort town in the Manavgat district of Antalya. Many tourists travel to Side during the summer months. With this feature Side, is located between the resorts most preferred. With its azure sea, peaceful nature, natural beauty, and historical values, Side is home to both local and foreign tourists. The population of the town is about 12 thousand in the winter months, and by the summer months, 1 million known to have passed.

History Of Side

Side's history is estimated to date back to earlier than the 7th century BC. The region of Side, which means pomegranate as a word, was dominated by Lydians in the 6th century BC. After this date, Side came under the rule of the Persians. The Side, which has been under the control of different civilizations many times throughout history, came under the control of Alexander the Great in 334 BC. The resort in question had its heyday in the Roman Empire in 78 BC. The region was the center of education and science of the world during this period. By the 13th century BC, the Seljuks and the 14th century Hamitoğulları Principality continued to rule in Side. Side's accession to Turkish territory dates back to the 15th century. In 1895, Cretan Muslims who had fled the island of Crete due to the Greek revolt settled in Side and established themselves in a small village. The village, founded on the seaside of the ruins of the ancient city, was named Selimiye village, and today, the settlement continues here.
