Kekova

Kekova is a town in the District of Kas, Antalya. Kekova Island, one of the unique beauties of KAS, welcomes many tourists every year. Kekova district takes its name from Kekova Island and includes Üçağiz Village, Kaleköy, Simena and around Batıkşehir. The formation of the Kekova region dates back between 150 BC and 250 BC. After the earthquake occurred on the said dates, the part was flooded and formed. The area has an image like six glasses and can be visited by boats. You can enjoy the water as it is clear with the excursion made by boats.

History Of Kekova

Kekova is home to the rich heritage of Lycia, which is called The' Land of light.' Besides this, it is possible to find a unique culture of the nomadic lifestyle in the region. Kekova Island has two different settlements belonging to the ancient period. One of these is the Sunken Kent. The sunken city is a 700-meter long place with Roman and Byzantine structures in the form of terraces. The second settlement in the region is the ancient city of Dolichiste, located in Tersane Bay. It estimated that Dockyard Bay was a place of boat building in ancient times. The old town of Dolichiste has a tower, Harbour and Harbour structures belonging to the Hellenistic period. Three large churches and two chapels have also identified in the ancient city. Excavations are underway on the island by underwater archaeologists. There are small settlements in the region, which remained under the influence of the Lycian civilization for many years and then the Roman Empire. The villages of Üçağız (Teiminssa) and Kale (Simena) are today's settlements.
