Gallipoli

Gallipoli is a significant town in Çanakkale province in the Marmara region. The district located between Saros Bay and Dardanelles Strait. Gallipoli is also known as The Last land part of the southeast of the European continent. Gallipoli, a highly developed district with both historical and natural beauty, is located 50 kilometers from the center of Çanakkale. The neighborhood is 290 km from Istanbul and 520 km from Ankara.

History Of Gallipoli

Gallipoli has a tale as old as the Dardanelles. In the early years, Gallipoli was known by the name of Critote. The city, which was under the rule of the Celts, later came to be referred to as the Welsh police. The name of the Welsh police gradually became Turkish and became Gallipoli. With the dissolution of the Hittite Empire in 1200 BC, Lydians and Phrygians established dominance in the region. Later, the Spartans, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, and Turks began to dominate Gallipoli. Gallipoli, which was a significant naval base during the Ottoman period, was also used as a gateway in Thrace and the Balkans. The city destroyed during the Battle of the Dardanelles in 1915 and abandoned by people living in the area on 3 October 1922. In 1923, Gallipoli became the county seat in 1926.
