History Of Hattusa
Hattusa has been home to many civilizations in the past and is a center whose history can date back to the 1200s BC. In Hattusha, which was dominated by Babylon, Mitanni, and many other great civilizations during specific periods, there are many artifacts from these periods. Hattusha, which used as the imperial capital during the Hittites period, also gains its fame here.
The discovery of the Hattusa region was in 1834. After the development of the area, many findings related to the Hittites led archaeologists to do intensive excavations in Hattusa. Significant artistic and architectural remains discovered in Hattusa, where excavations began 100 years ago.
Although Hattusha was referred to, especially by the Hittites, many artifacts belonging to civilizations such as Assyria, Phrygian, Roman, and Byzantine found during the excavations. The most critical ruins discovered in the region are the lower Castle, the upper City, The Great Castle, and Yazılıkaya.
When To Go To Hattusa?
You must pay a specific fee for entry to Hattusa, which is open to tourists and history enthusiasts on all days of the year. It is necessary to state that entry is free for museum cardholders. But if you do not have a museum card, you must pay for the entrance. Although there is no summer – winter restrictions, we recommend that you visit this area in spring and summer, which features an open-air museum. Also, guests who want to see Hattusa during the winter months can experience unique moments accompanied by snow and nature weather.
