Due to the forest texture that dominates the region, archaeological findings that shed light on the historical ages of Rize have not been unearthed to this day. The history of Rize can only be considered in connection with the history of neighboring provinces and regions. The Land of the Kimmers, who lived north of the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains in the 2000s BC, was occupied by the Sakalar in 720 BC. The Kimmers' branch, which lived between the Azov Sea and the Caucasus, left their homes in 714 BC under the pressure of Sakalar and spread by the Aras and Çoruh rivers. Later, Kimmers dominated the Kizilirmak and Adana region, such as Kemer Mountain Between Trabzon and Bayburt, Kemer village at the exit of Rize Çayeli District, Gemerek at the height of Kizilirmak and Ümrü at the east of Kars, have survived to the present day.
