History Of Izmir

Izmir, Smyrna, with its former name, is located on an Islet located in the northeast of the Aegean Bay and has a surface area of approximately one hundred acres. The shaft brought by the floods from Meles Creek and Mount Sipylos (Mount Yamanlar) formed The Plain of today's Bornova, and the region transformed into a hill of half an islet. According to the results obtained from Symrna excavations, the Bronze Age houses of Izmir placed on rocks 3 to 5 meters above the sea at the highest level of the mound. This settlement shows that Izmir used as a settlement area during the old Bronze Age. The pottery and pottery found in the region show similarities with the Troy period and culture (3000-2500 BC).
