History Of Didyma

Traces of the first settlement in Didim found in the 8000s BC. After Didim (Didyma), which was under the rule of Mycenae, Cretians, and Akalis, it came under the control of Persians, Romans, and Byzantines. After the 1071 Battle of Malazgirt, the Turks dominated this region. During the 1st Crusades, it again fell into the hands of Byzantium. With the establishment of the Principality of Menteşe in 1261, Didim joined this Principality. Didim was annexed to Ottoman territory in 1413 and came under Turkish rule again. After the Treaty of Lausanne of 1924, the region was named Yoran - Yeronda in the Ottoman period. However, the area severely damaged by earthquakes, and in 1955 it was moved to Yenihisar, a new settlement in Yoran.
