History of Bodrum

Bodrum, with its former name Halicarnassus, was founded by the Dors in 484 BC. Later, Caria and Lelegs settled in this region. In 650 BC, Megeralis came and expanded the city. Bodrum came under the rule of Persians in 386 BC. The area in question experienced its brightest period in 353 BC when it became the capital of the Carians. The Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the world, is located in Bodrum. The Mausoleum was built in ancient times in memory of King Mausolos by his sister and wife, Artemisia. Bodrum came into the hands of the Romans in 1992 BC. After the 1st Crusader war, it came under the rule of the Turks and joined the Ottoman Empire.
