History of Assos

Developed by the Aiol colonies in the 7th century BC, the Lydians conquered the city in the 6th century BC. By the 5th century BC, the town incorporated into the Union of Athens. The city, which showed significant development during the Roman period, is one of the ancient cities that adopted the religion of Christianity as the earliest. By the 14th century, the city was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The baths, agora Temple, Theatre, and sarcophagi of the ancient town are of interest to many people. In this respect, the most crucial Hill of the old city is the Temple of Athena. Important sections about the temple, which built-in 530 BC, exhibited in the Istanbul Archaeological Museum.
